Vegan MoFo Cook Book Give Away-you choose!

Posted on

When I first decided I wanted to go vegan and, you know, do some research about what I was getting myself in to, the first vegan blog I discovered was Have Cake, Will Travel. I thought (and still think) that Celine was a friggin’ genius who not only took amazing photographs, but also came up with the best recipes for treats. Through Celine’s blog and her old LiveJournal account, I found several other vegan bloggers and found a community that I quite liked. I do want to point out that yes, I did already know about Isa, but for some reason, I never got sucked into the PPK Forum like a lot of other vegan bloggers have.
Anyways. Celine is awesome. I love the way she writes, the stories she tells about her cats, and the delicious treats she creates. I credit Celine for getting me to try beans in desserts and for pointing out that chocolate and tahini really were made for one another, and for bringing ranger cookies into my life. Because of this blog, I also learned about Just The Food, which made me realize that being vegan doesn’t have to mean you survive on beans and greens, you can indulge in delicious comfort food sometimes too!

Today’s give away is going to be different than any I’ve done in the past. I want you to tell me about your favorite recipes from either OR bothHave Cake, Will Travel and/or from Just The Food and tell me why you love this recipe. This giveaway is my way of introducing you all to two bloggers that I really enjoy following. Please indicate in your comment which book you’d like to win.

Your entry gives you a chance to choose one of the three books these two lovely ladies have co-authored. I’m hoping this will open up the contest to folks who have one or two of Joni and Celine’s books, but not all of them…and to people who haven’t yet purchased these books!

The book choices:
1. The Complete Guide to Vegan Food Substitutions
2. 500 Vegan Recipes
3. Hearty Vegan Meals for Monster Appetites

This contest is open until October 20th at Midnight CST and is open to US Residents Only.

For an extra entry AFTER telling me about your favorite recipe, follow me on Twitter and comment with your user name.

About laceythevegan

I'm a reader, a food lover, a crazy cat lady, an animal lover, local shopper and local music supporter. You can find me in East Nashville most of the time, shopping, having a drink at a locally owned bar, or eating food at a local restaurant. I like cumin and smoked paprika way more than I should, winter squashes make me happy, and while I do like most fruits, I only *love* berries and mangoes. I'd rather have salty snacks than sweets, and the darker chocolate is, the better. I still think Earth Balance is the best fake butter, Vegenaise is the best vegan mayo, and Almond Milk tastes better than soy milk. Chia seeds are my favorite egg substitute for the most part, and pumpkin tends to bind better than applesauce-especially in chocolate goods. I know a lot about food and nutrition, but that doesn't mean I'm the healthiest person. I tend to avoid eating out because I know I can make food that tastes better at home.

  1. Ooh, the Beer Battered Corn Dogs on justthefood really caught my eye – haven’t had a corn dog in so long! I love the suggestion for corn dog nuggets – sounds so much easier than trying to dip and deep fry a whole dog.
Speaking of dogs, I’m also definitely making my pooch a batch of the Minty Dog Bones!

  2. My favorite recipe from Have Cake, Will Travel is probably the Butterscotch Pecan Cookies, because they’re awesome (though all of the recipes and photos on the blog are quite inspiring). I would love to win a copy of The Complete Guide to Vegan Substitutions, but either of the other books would be fabulous too. Thanks for offering such a nice giveaway!

  10. (is this open to people in the UK? I hope so! I’m commenting as if it is in the hope my luck is in!)

My faaave recipe from Just The Food HAS to be the ‘Baked Curry and Macadamia Nut Crusted Tofu Burgers’ SO GOOD! Especially if you use tofu that’s been frozen (& then defrosted obvs) makes them so fluffy and crispy!

Oooh and I’d really love the 500 vegan recipes please!

  12. Hey there!

Celine’s Have Cake, Will Travel is a new discovery I made through Vegan Mofo. I’ve already bookmarked so many of her recipes to try once the madness of mofo is over…mostly bagels! Of all the bagels I think I’m most intrigued by the pumpkin bagel recipe…what on earth could go wrong there?!

For my selection I’d have to pick Vegan Meals for Monster Appetites – my husband as the metabolism of a teenage boy and I think he’d appreciate it!

  13. I started reading Celine’s blog when I first went vegan, too! Her flourless peanut butter “biskies” recipe is one of the only vegan PB cookie recipes I haven’t messed up! So delicious.

I’d love to win 500 Vegan Recipes because who doesn’t need 500 more vegan recipes to try out? I’ve also heard nothing but great things.

Also, I’m following you on Twitter! Thanks for holding the contest. :]

  16. My favorite recipe from Just the Food is the Agave Mustard Balsamic Vinaigrette Marinated Grilled Portobello Burgers http://justthefood.blogspot.com/2008/04/agave-mustard-balsamic-vinaigrette.html. They are a mouthful to say and a mouthful to eat. Sweet, sour, and plenty of umami earthiness. They’re amazing.

  17. The Tofu Fries from “Have Cake, Will Travel” caught my eye. It’s easy-to-make finger food!

It was hard to decide, but I think I’ll choose 500 Vegan Recipes, though they all look good!

  18. The Veggie Curry Pockets from Just The Food. Curry is one of my favorites… Combine that with a stuffed pastry? Yes!

It’s a toss up between Hearty Vegan Meals and Vegan Substitutions for me.

  20. Ooooh, fun giveaway!! I have 500 Vegan Recipes and the Substitutions book, but I don’t have Hearty Meals yet! I love Celine and Joni so much, and Celine’s blog was one of the first I found too.

My fave Have Cake, Will Travel recipe has to be the Pumpkin Fauxsage. It’s so delicious, and my BFF Sheridan actually makes it every year in lieu of a Tofurky at Thanksgiving. 🙂

My favorite recipe is the one for Peanut Butter Bagels. I love it because it’s so versatile…eat it plain, turn it into a sandwhich by adding banana with a drizzle of agave, or serve open faced, spread with vegan cream cheese, topped with sliced strawberries. The possibilities for this as a snack or main meal fare are limitless!

Because I have none of the books you are offering, I would be tickled to have any of them. Should I win, please surprise me.

  41. I would love to have a copy of Hearty Vegan Meals for Monster Appetites! Let’s see. I have been following Celine for a few years now, and my favorite recipe of hers has to be the Matcha Spelt Rolls with Bittersweet Chocolate Filling and Almond Icing. I saw it while searching her recipes one day, and it looked so incredibly crazy that I had to go for it. I’m so glad I did! I made it first for just myself and my partner (they were gone in two days), and then brought them to a party where they were a huge hit. Side note: her Black Bean Brownie recipe is probably the best I’ve ever tried (and I’ve tried many).

But, I am going to make the Pumpkin Molasses Bars that Food Fued just made this weekend…they sound so yummy. With all that being sad, I don’t have any of those books, but would love to have 500 Vegan Recipes…heck, any of them would do for me…ha :o) You guys have turned me onto her blog that’s for sure. She does have beautiful pics and awesome sounding recipes!
