I made my own Mmm Sauce

Thanks to Mama Pea I’ve discovered the joy of Mmm Sauce. I’m one of those people who can read a recipe and tell if I’ll like something or not. One read of this recipe though, and I wasn’t sure, but I knew I had to try it. I rarely use raw almonds to make creamy dips/sauces. Maybe this is because I find that soaked cashews blend better. Either way, I had a plan. I decided I’d pulse the almonds to nearly dust in my food processor before adding liquid to the mix. This was a great idea.

Mmm Sauce (doubled)
Pulse in food processor the following dry ingredients:
1/2 c raw almonds (not soaked)
heaping 1/2 c nutritional yeast
1 1/2 t curry powder
1 t oregano
1 t cilantro
1/2 t salt
1 t garlic powder
pulse until well combined and almonds are ground, then add
1/2 c olive oil
1/2 c hulled chickpeas
2/3 c water
1 T low sodium tamari
5 T lemon juice
process until smooth, this took my food processor a minute or less.
Yield: 2-2 1/2 cups
Serve on EVERYTHING. Try not to eat it all at once…it may not look like much, but it’s addictive I tell you.

The only change I can see myself making to this recipe is reducing or omitting the olive oil and subbing more water or more water+chickpeas blended, and I can see myself removing the curry/reducing the lemon for an overall different flavor. For example, lime juice would be appropriate, and you could use curry paste for extra oomph that doesn’t taste as…yellow as curry powder.

About laceythevegan

I'm a reader, a food lover, a crazy cat lady, an animal lover, local shopper and local music supporter. You can find me in East Nashville most of the time, shopping, having a drink at a locally owned bar, or eating food at a local restaurant. I like cumin and smoked paprika way more than I should, winter squashes make me happy, and while I do like most fruits, I only *love* berries and mangoes. I'd rather have salty snacks than sweets, and the darker chocolate is, the better. I still think Earth Balance is the best fake butter, Vegenaise is the best vegan mayo, and Almond Milk tastes better than soy milk. Chia seeds are my favorite egg substitute for the most part, and pumpkin tends to bind better than applesauce-especially in chocolate goods. I know a lot about food and nutrition, but that doesn't mean I'm the healthiest person. I tend to avoid eating out because I know I can make food that tastes better at home.

  1. Mmmm. Kind of like the Alfredo Sauce in VYY…but spicier! I have to admit I did take more than one “taste” of that on its own. This sounds pretty great.

  2. I wish I could tell by a recipe whether I’d like it! Once it gets beyond 3 or 4 ingredients, I have no clue. That is a talent I need to develop to save myself some frustration. I’ll take your word (and photo) for this sauce, though.
