The Happy Herbivore Cookbook-Giveaway!

Posted on

I seem to end up with more than one copy of cookbooks repeatedly. Usually this happens because someone (ahem, Mom, Sloane) will buy me something off of my Amazon wishlist, but they won’t remove the item from the list. This has happened with three different books now. I’m always happy to share though!

Mmmm…cacao bliss and a sappy Kristin Hannah book…oh wait, that’s not what you’re here for…it’s that green book you want…isn’t it?
This time, the situation is different. I pre-ordered a copy of Lindsay’s book before it came out. Due to some issues with Amazon sending the item off 10 days late, and the post office disregarding a forwarding order, I had major problems actually getting this books. When the postman told me I owed $13 in shipping because my package was forwarded, I laughed in his face and emailed Amazon, who stated the package was being returned and they’d just refund me. I got a refund from Amazon more than three weeks ago now. Thanks to the wonderful site, Groupon, I had a $20 groupon (that cost me $10) for Barnes and Noble. I bought the last copy of Lindsay’s book there and went on my merry way.

I was out of town last week, but apparently the USPS damaged the Amazon package pretty badly and didn’t return it. They delivered it to my office with all these stickers about how the package was severely damaged. The book cover for the HHC is kind of bent, and so is the cover of the other book I purchased. Amazon has already given me a refund though, and since the package was damaged the postal service apparently used some kind of insurance to cover it. Whatever, I have an extra copy of the book now. And it’s a GREAT cookbook. It’s perfect for people who don’t have a lot of time to cook, people who don’t keep tons of specialty ingredients on hand, folks on a budget, and people who are new to veganism. This book is mostly no fat added recipes. That doesn’t mean fat free, but it does mean Lindsay doesn’t add oil to her recipes. This book is full of easy ideas for lunch too, or summer days when there’s no way you’re spending more than 10 minutes in the kitchen.

If you want a copy of this book, you have until March 15th to either comment here about how much you want this book, blog about my post, or follow me on Twitter. If you blog or follow me, just post an additional comment letting me know that you’ve blogged or followed me.
This contest is restricted to the US only. Sorry international readers, I really cannot afford to ship out of the country!

About laceythevegan

I'm a reader, a food lover, a crazy cat lady, an animal lover, local shopper and local music supporter. You can find me in East Nashville most of the time, shopping, having a drink at a locally owned bar, or eating food at a local restaurant. I like cumin and smoked paprika way more than I should, winter squashes make me happy, and while I do like most fruits, I only *love* berries and mangoes. I'd rather have salty snacks than sweets, and the darker chocolate is, the better. I still think Earth Balance is the best fake butter, Vegenaise is the best vegan mayo, and Almond Milk tastes better than soy milk. Chia seeds are my favorite egg substitute for the most part, and pumpkin tends to bind better than applesauce-especially in chocolate goods. I know a lot about food and nutrition, but that doesn't mean I'm the healthiest person. I tend to avoid eating out because I know I can make food that tastes better at home.

  13. How many of the recipes are centered on soy ingredients? I’ve been looking for a good vegetarian cookbook that doesn’t rely so much on tofu and tempeh. I am either allergic or just soy intolerant so these ingredients are out of the question for me. However, my husband is also vegetarian and loves both tofu and tempeh so either way I’d love to check out this cookbook!

I follow your blog (not sure if subscribing to it with google reader recognizes the follow or not) as well as on twitter.

The recipes in this book rely mostly on beans for protein since they are healthier and lower in fat! I think you would like this book. Make sure to add an extra comment since you follow me on twitter!

      • There is a “soy-free” label indicating which recipes are soy-free. Over half the book is soy-free and even the recipes that have soy, it’s soy sauce that’s called for; not tofu, tempeh, etc.

There is very little tofu (and no tempeh) in the book.
